Inspection Fixtures

An inspection fixture positions and holds a workpiece in a precisely defined, repeatable location for quality inspection. Unlike machining, no process forces act on the part during measurement itself – so the fixture only needs to hold it with minimal clamping force, without inducing stress. Even slight deformation from excessive clamping force would distort the measurement result.

The actual measurement is then carried out by a separate measuring system – such as a mechanical probe, a coordinate measuring machine, or an optical measurement method. Our inspection fixture provides the foundation for this: a repeatable, distortion-free reference position matched exactly to your part and your existing measuring system. It’s typically used after machining or assembly processes, but can also be used upstream, for example in incoming goods inspection.

At WERSOMA, we design and manufacture custom-adapted inspection fixtures precisely matched to your part and inspection process. Our experts support you from concept to commissioning – whether you work with mechanical probes, a coordinate measuring machine, or optical measurement methods.

Important for the distinction: an inspection fixture always delivers a concrete measured value – unlike a gauge, which as a comparison standard only ever gives a pass/fail result, without capturing the actual value. Depending on your inspection task, batch size and documentation requirements, we’ll advise you on which of the two principles is more economical for your application.
