Clamping Fixtures

Alongside the machine tool and the tools themselves, the clamping fixture has a major influence on the quality of the workpieces being machined. Besides positioning workpieces and securing them against machining forces, fixtures can also take on additional tasks, such as guiding or supporting a tool. WERSOMA GmbH can draw on the know-how of over 2000 completed projects in this field.

WERSOMA is your reliable partner, offering a full service in clamping fixtures:

  • New design and manufacturing of custom clamping fixtures
  • Development of custom clamping concepts
  • Redesign and conversion of existing fixtures
  • Manufacturer-independent maintenance and repair of clamping fixtures

The right clamping fixture for every machine

Hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical? Depending on the machine and clamping strategy, we work with our customers to develop a tailored fixture concept that matches your product and your machining philosophy.

Different machines place different demands on the fixture. Key factors when finding the right clamping strategy include the number of axes and spindles and the travel paths involved. We’re also happy to carry out collision analysis for the interaction of fixture, machine and tool on our customers’ behalf.

Hydraulic clamping fixture

High clamping forces in a small footprint – that’s just one advantage of a hydraulic clamping fixture. Short clamping times and high repeatability of the clamping situation are other key criteria when deciding on a hydraulic clamping fixture.

Our strength Schematic view of the oil channels drilled directly into the body of a WERSOMA clamping fixture

We make sure that the pressurised oil supply – wherever the design allows – runs through channels drilled directly into the fixture body, instead of external piping.

This avoids chip traps forming around hoses and fittings in the machining area. It also significantly reduces the number of potential leak and failure points, and protects the oil passages from mechanical damage and coolant ingress.

It also leaves more clearance for tool and spindle movement. This lowers the risk of collisions during machining and helps make the most of every millimetre of the machine's working envelope.

Depending on the design, this can even allow part or all of the fixture to be kept under permanent pressure – compact and low-maintenance.

Mechanical clamping fixture

For prototype manufacturing or small-batch production, using a mechanical clamping fixture can make economic sense. In return, longer clamping times and less repeatable clamping situations must be accepted.

Pneumatic clamping fixture

Where large clamping forces aren’t required, or the fixture’s environment doesn’t permit oil as a clamping medium, a pneumatic clamping fixture can be the right choice depending on the application.
